WIMBORNE & Colehill kept the pressure on Dorset Funeral Plan League leaders Dorchester by edging to a 10-run victory at Bere Regis.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Wimborne made a positive start with Colin Randall and James Miller putting on 101.

That was followed by a mini collapse when Mark House, Miller and Frank Turrell were sent back across the boundary rope.

Tom Butcher was trapped lbw by Rob Murphy to make it 130 for five but then Tom Caines (57*) and James Williams (48*) took control.

They put on another 100 runs as Wimborne reached 230 in their 50 overs. Bradley Moss was the pick of the Bere Regis bowlers with three for 41.

Bere Regis looked steady in reply and Murphy hit 52 before being run out.

The hosts were closing on the total at 200 for five when wickets began to fall, Garry King, Crispin Brown and Moss being removed in quick succession by Turrell.

Eventually Bere Regis ran out of overs, falling agonisingly short of their target. Turrell took three for 27 and Ed Bartlett and Williams two wickets apiece.

Elsewhere, Broadstone were beaten by 93 runs at Martinstown.

The visitors chose to field after winning the toss but found the Martinstown batsmen a little too hot to handle.

Opener Ed Nichols cracked a patient half-century but the innings was spearheaded by Ryan Chase, who was unbeaten on 108.

Martinstown made it to 264 for six from their 50 overs, Caleb Rowe taking three for 34.

The reply from Steve Trembath’s men never quite got going. Opener Luke Carter top-scored on 34, with Matt Camp (4-51) causing plenty of problems.

Broadstone ground to a halt on 171 after 36 overs, despite a valiant effort by the lower order which saw Mike Holm (12), Matt Spraggs (19) and Rowe (25*) all chip in.

Poole Town also stayed in the mix at the business end of the table by winning comprehensively at Sherborne.

The visitors set a solid total of 236 for eight before dismissing their opponents for 165.

Swanage remain without a league victory this season after being trounced at Stalbridge.

The away side were skittled for 117 and Stalbridge reached their target with two wickets down.

In Division One, Christchurch furthered their title hopes with a 10-wicket hammering of hosts Poole Town II.

Poole started well but after reaching 82 for two, wickets started to fall. They stumbled to 136 all out, with wickets four to eight dropping for the gain of just 14 runs.

Skipper Nick Williams top-scored on 40, while Richard Harrington (20) and Cameron Owen (20*) also pitched in.

Christchurch’s Liam Bowater enjoyed nine fruitful overs as he took four for 34, while James McMurray recorded figures of four for 22.

Ben Francis hit 67 and Joseph Malone 38 as Christchurch eased to the total.
