STEVE Bendall has revealed Bournemouth middleweight Matty Legg is poised for a September comeback.

The 25-year-old has suffered defeats in his past two fights when competing for the Southern Area title.

He was outpointed by Danny Butler in Bristol having gone the distance before being forced to retire after seven rounds against Tey-Lynn Jones at the O2 Academy.

Cherries fan Legg is not set to be on the card when Bendall stages his ‘The Dawning’ show in Bournemouth on Saturday, June 16.

Promoter Bendall told the Daily Echo: “Leggy is still training but he is enjoying time with his new baby. He will be looking to get back out in September.

“We may have a few little fights to build things back up and he still has a long way to go in the game.

“There were a lot of things last time which went wrong on the week, there are no excuses but it didn’t help him. He will come back better and stronger.

“When he fought Danny Butler, he put on a brave performance but it wasn’t the same Leggy against Tey Lynn-Jones. That’s boxing and he has to learn from it. It will make him a better fighter, he is determined to get back in there.”
