SAM Baker's dramatic late try saw Dorset & Wilts book a place in the final of the Bill Beaumont Senior Men’s County Championship.

The North Dorset fly-half went over in the 14th minute of added time to grab a crucial try bonus point in their 40-38 defeat by Berkshire.

It saw the Twin Counties finish top of Division Three Pool Two and set up a showdown with Pool One winners Essex at Richmond on Saturday.

Baker landed a penalty to open the scoring against the run of play before Berkshire rallied and forged 26-3 ahead to leave Dorset & Wilts with a mountain to climb.

However, Baker's try and conversion on the stroke of half-time reduced the arrears and threw them a lifeline.

And a try from Royal Wootton Bassett hooker Phil Bardwell, converted by Baker, saw the Twin Counties make further inroads.

But two converted tries from Josh Bartlett saw Berkshire regain a commanding lead before Bardwell went over, with Baker again adding the extras, to make it 40-24.

Baker also converted Dave Hogg's try and then managed to break free himself to touch down to secure the losing bonus point before his conversion completed the scoring.
