LINUS Sundstrom recorded his best meeting for Pirates this season – and then joked he would not be returning Brady Kurtz's engine.

Swedish star Sundstrom has experienced a modest start to life in a Poole race jacket but scored six paid eight and nine paid 11 in meetings against Rye House this week.

And the 27-year-old admitted he had profited from the generosity of Pirates number one Kurtz on both occasions.

Speaking in the post-meeting press conference after the fixture at Wimborne Road, Sundstrom said: "I'm slowly getting there. A big part of it is this man next to me, because he lent me an engine for Monday and Wednesday.

"I'm feeling a lot more comfortable on that engine and I'm very thankful to be helped out by a team-mate in that way.

"He needs it back now but I think I'm going to load up the van quickly and leave!

"I was struggling a bit off the gates to start with but got going in the end. It was really frustrating to finish off with a 5-1 in heat 15 but what can you do?

"Track conditions were tough at some points but everyone is going home safe and that's the main thing."

Sundstrom and Kurtz are due to take part in Grand Prix qualifying meetings on Saturday.
