BOURNEMOUTH AC opened their British Athletics League promotion bid with a strong win at Yeovil, reports Nigel Harding.

James Lelliott won long jump (7.25m) and triple jump (14.25m) and dead-heated for first in the B string 100m (11.01s).

He also threw a javelin personal best 61.45m for second place, clocked 22.35s for 200m and pole vaulted 3.20m, returning 43 points from six individual events.

Cameron Hale followed up his previous week’s Dorset decathlon gold with a B string javelin victory (52.94m).

He also backed up Lelliott with second places in long and triple jumps.

Lewis Sainval achieved a 1.90m second place on high jump debut, immediately after his 800m.

Ronnie Wells dropped just one point with his 10.59s and 21.71s sprint double.

Daniel Mulryan (8:31.20) and David Long (8:47.40) missed only one in the 3,000m, while Dan Brunsden and Joshua Kelly accumulated steadily in the throws.

Delighted team manager Tim Hughes said: "We have a stronger team than last season.

"Coupled with their sheer enthusiasm for success, I feel we will gain the promotion we narrowly missed last year."
