LUCY Steele struck gold six times as Poole and Wareham swimmers piled on the medals at the City of Wells Level 3 Open Meet.

Steele’s six of the best were among 80 medals won by Poole swimmers including 33 golds.

A smaller Wareham team took the Dorset tally past the 100-mark with 13 gold, seven silver and six bronze.

Steele was in the form of her life, recording a string of personal best times including drops of four, eight and 12 seconds in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

She won all three of those events in the 13yrs age group as well as the 400m freestyle and 200m and 400m individual medley (IM) plus silver in the 200m freestyle.

Team-mate Luca Sartorius made the podium eight times with gold in the 11yrs 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m and 100m butterfly and 200m IM, silver in the 50m and 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Mark Talalaykin led a Poole clean sweep of the medals in the 9yrs 200m freestyle with team-mates Christopher Bernal Mezzetti and Will Webster taking silver and bronze respectively.

Talalaykin also grabbed gold in the 200m breaststroke and silver in the 50m butterfly, 200m IM and a 50m breaststroke in which Mezetti took the gold to add to his 50m freestyle and backstroke bronze medals.

Hester Mugford struck gold four times to lead Wareham’s medal charge.

She won the 14yrs 50m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly and the 100m fly.

Team-mate Tanya Blanchard was the fastest girl in all age groups as she won the 14yrs 50m breaststroke in 3:03.53 as well as bronze in the 50m fly.

Wareham’s Austin Blanchard topped two Dorset clean-sweeps, leading home Poole’s Xavi Jebb and Jack Goddard in the 10yrs 100m breaststroke and Goddard and Jebb in the 50m breaststroke.

Goddard also won gold in the 50m and 400m freestyle and 200m IM, silver in the 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 200m breaststroke.

Jebb won the 200m breaststroke to complete his set of gold, silver and bronze.

Poole 11-year-old Betsy Vavasour’s five medals included three golds – in the 100m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 200m IM – along with silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50m fly.

Team-mate Zack Studley also struck gold three times – in the 12yrs 200m and 400m freestyle and 50m backstroke – as well as silver in the 100m freestyle.

Zoe Steele’s six medals included gold in the 11yrs 400m freestyle and 400m IM while Jessica Huggins won gold in the 10yrs 200m IM and 50m backstroke and bronze in the other two backstroke distances.

Matthew Mitchell contributed two golds to Wareham’s tally – in the 12yrs 50m fly and 100m backstroke – with Will Longhurst winning a medal of each colour including gold in the 50m breaststroke.
