DANISH flier Nicolai Klindt is aiming to prove Pirates boss Matt Ford wrong.

The former Wolverhampton man racked up a string of big hauls for Poole in the early months of last season but his campaign was ended by a serious knee injury.

Ford elected not to bring back club asset Klindt for this year and the 29-year-old instead signed for SGB Championship Workington as well as Ostrow and Holsted.

Klindt will tomorrow represent Yarmouth when they face Pirates at Wimborne Road in a meeting to celebrate Poole's 70th anniversary (7pm).

And the Outrup-born racer is desperate to show Ford what he is missing.

Klindt told the Daily Echo: "I don't have any offers from Premiership clubs at the moment so it doesn't matter where or when I ride – every time I go on track I have to prove myself.

"I think bar some mechanical issues and stupid exclusions, I have done that this year. I've beaten some really good guys already.

"I don't know if I've surprised myself but I haven't ridden for a long time and other people have ridden all of last year. You never forget how to ride but I have taken to it easier than I had imagined.

"Then again, I worked really hard over the winter on everything from my mental strength, to my fitness, to my organisation. I didn't leave a stone unturned.

"I'm getting older and I need to take every chance I get, every time I ride. I have to show Matt he made a mistake not putting me in the team."

Ford told the Daily Echo in February that Klindt had been "so unlucky" not to return and said he would be "one of the first people I would turn to" in the event of injury problems.

Reflecting on his return to Dorset, albeit temporary, Klindt added: "It will be nice to finally have a meeting. I have only done one in England this year.

"I was a bit gutted that the original anniversary meeting was washed out because I had been due to ride, so I am happy to be in this one.

"I'm owned by Poole now and had a really good few months there last year. The fans were nice, the club was well-organised and they were a nice bunch of lads to ride with.

"I'm looking forward to racing at Poole again."

Supporters who buy a £5 souvenir programme can gain entry for just £3.

A free 'History of Poole Speedway' event will take place at the stadium from 2.30-5.30pm and will include talks from Pirates riders past and present.

The main gates open at 6pm, one hour before racing starts.

Pirates were last night thwarted by the weather as their Premiership trip to King's Lynn was postponed.

The Stars took the decision based on an unfavourable forecast. Poole have had six meetings called off this season due to poor weather, directly or indirectly.
