CHERRIES under-21s completed their Central League campaign with victory at Bristol Rovers.

Carl Fletcher’s fledglings secured their third straight 2-0 triumph thanks to a sharp start to the second half, with two goals from a trialist securing the win.

A quiet first half saw Nnamdi Ofoborh go closest for the visitors, the former Tottenham youngster sending a long-range effort fizzing past the post.

Goalkeeper Jordan Holmes had to be alert at the other end, however, making an impressive stop to keep out a powerful effort.

Cherries took the lead soon after the restart. Gavin Kilkenny was denied by a superb save from the goalkeeper but the trialist tucked away the loose ball.

Four minutes later, the lead was doubled. After good work from Keelan O’Connell, Kilkenny’s shot was saved and again the trialist pounced on the follow-up.

The visitors managed the game well from that point but still required two excellent interventions from Holmes to ensure the clean sheet.

The Australian first tipped away a drive from distance, before getting a strong hand to a shot which had looked destined for the bottom corner.

Matt Worthington could count himself unlucky not to score, the midfielder smashing against the crossbar.
