A PARK and ride scheme is urgently needed to reduce congestion at Cherries games, a councillor says.

AFC Bournemouth enthusiast Cllr Philip Stanley-Watts said last attended a game on Wednesday and the problem "seems to be getting worse".

"I go to most home matches and there are problems all over Queen's Park and Boscombe with people parking on kerbs and on people's gardens," he said.

"The travel plan for matches seems to be non-existent.

"It is becoming a health and safety hazard. I don't know if the club is aware of it but it should be.

"And when the new stadium is built it will only get worse."

Cllr Stanley-Watts said he intends to raise the possibility of a park and ride scheme involving Yellow Buses at the full council meeting on Wednesday next week.

The issue of match-day congestion has been raised before, along with the possibility of a new dedicated junction off the A338 to funnel match-day traffic away from other roads in the area.

The full council meeting is at the town hall on Wednesday, April 25, from 7pm.
