DORSET'S Phil Loose saw off the top two seeds on his way to tasting victory at the FILA Senior English Indoor Championship – his second major win of the season.

Loose, who manages and coaches at Wimborne Tennis Club, claimed the veteran-40 title at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn Garden City.

It followed the 39-year-old being crowned ITF Scottish Seniors Open champion for the second year in succession in February.

Loose, seeded three, recorded a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Great Britain's Matt Rogan in the first round and again did not drop a game when he accounted for David Gaterell in the quarter-final.

He also made light work of seeing off number one seed Aleksander Kaczmarek from Poland in the last four, Loose winning 6-1, 6-3 against an opponent ranked 12th in the world.

And Loose claimed the title after defeating number two seed and last year's champion Damion Jackson in the final, the Wimborne ace prevailing 7-6, 6-0.

Loose told the Daily Echo: "It has been a dream start to the season, having won the Scottish Seniors Open and now this tournament.

"I have broken into the top 100 in the world, setting me up for an exciting season.

"I would like to thank David Lloyd Leisure Southampton, who let me use their fantastic indoor facilities over the winter."
