DORSET Abilities Group Football Club are celebrating more success after being crowned the first ever winners of The One Tournament Disability Cup, which was held at the prestigious St George’s Park training facility in Burton-On-Trent.
Dorset actually lost their first group game 5-0 and were also trailing 1-0 at half-time in the final, but a brilliant hat-trick from Toby Maguire, great work from midfield trio, Alex Hewitt, Robbie Yates and Jack Buik, plus some fantastic defending from Thomas Rattenbury, Callum Loft and Antony Wiles ensured that they deservedly beat Nottingham-based team Grantham FC 3-1 to claim the trophy.
Manager Luke Tomlin said: “To say we’re proud of the seven players who played would be the biggest understatement ever.
“We had a great two days away from our friends and family, which finished perfectly as we added another trophy to our cabinet.
“The facilities at St George’s Park were absolutely incredible and I’m sure we’ve all made memories that will last forever.
“We were lucky enough to be allocated the Paul Gascoigne changing room and also shared the facilities with England Ladies’ manager, Phil Neville and his Lionesses, who were there preparing for last Friday’s World Cup Qualifier versus Wales.
“Even breaking down on the way home didn’t dampen our spirits!”
Coach Mitch Fox added: “We’d like to thank our teamwear sponsors Paul Paice Blinds & Beds and PJ Aiken Insurance for their continued support.”
