VERWOOD Town Ladies are hoping to finish the season with a flourish – thanks partly to the Daily Echo.

The Potters were forced to launch a mid-season recruitment drive after maternity leave, injury and work commitments had decimated their squad.

And after turning to their local newspaper for help, the plea came up trumps with four new players added to their ranks.

The arrival of the experienced Chloe Jackson, former Cornwall player Bryonie Lapham, Carrie-Anne Burnett and Lydia Wallis has helped them turn the tide.

Wins over Shaftesbury and Grange Athletic have seen them climb off the foot of Division One of the Dorset Women's League.

Sally Chalk, assistant manager, said: “The spirit, enthusiasm and morale of the team is at a high thanks to the new additions to the team, who all add a wealth of football experience.

"Next season is looking really exciting. We are extremely grateful to the Daily Echo as their coverage was crucial in securing new players for our team."

The club, whose kit sponsors are Altogether Care and Minster Partnership, is keen to promote women’s football within the community and anyone interested in joining should email vtlfc@outlook.com.
