EXCITED boss Matt Ford admitted a home win would be a fitting way to celebrate Poole's 70th anniversary.

The Dorset club is due to hold its season-opening individual meeting at Wimborne Road on Friday with a £10,000 winner's cheque up for grabs.

Pirates stars including Brady Kurtz and Chris Holder will be joined by the likes of world number seven Matej Zagar and ex-Grand Prix star Niels-Kristian Iversen.

Danish trio Peter Kildemand, Hans Andersen and Kenneth Bjerre will also fancy their chances of glory.

Ford told the Daily Echo: "The field is very competitive. I don't think there is a clear winner but I would love one of the Pirates to walk away with the top prize.

"Zagar was probably in the top three in the world in the last couple of months of last season.

"He is an exceptional talent and I know he won't be there to make up the numbers. He will want to make sure he secures victory.

"Iversen is coming back from a nasty injury and it will be interesting to see how he responds."
