LATE goals from Junior Stanislas and Jordon Ibe rescued victory for Cherries against basement side West Brom in a drab encounter at Vitality Stadium.

Jay Rodriguez gave the Baggies a deserved lead early in the second half but Ibe’s effort from distance deceived keeper Ben Foster.

A minute from time, Stanislas curled a stunning free-kick into the left corner of the net, sending Vitality Stadium into raptures.

The 2-1 success saw Cherries go eight points clear of the Premier League drop zone heading into the international break.

However, injuries sustained by defensive duo Simon Francis and Adam Smith will be a source of concern to Eddie Howe.

The boss brought in two new faces to the side which had been beaten 4-1 by Tottenham.

Smith switched to left-back as Charlie Daniels dropped to the bench, with winger Ibe taking his place in the starting line-up.

Joshua King – like Ibe a used substitute against Spurs – shook off a neck problem to replace Lys Mousset. There was no place in the squad for calf injury victim Harry Arter.

For West Brom, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Oliver Burke and Matt Phillips dropped to the bench, with captain Jonny Evans, Claudio Yacob and Jay Rodriguez coming in.

Cherries made an inauspicious start and West Brom created the first opening when Yacob’s cross fizzed across goal, with frontman Salomon Rondon too late to make contact.

Allan Nyom’s delivery from the right then dropped on the head of Rondon, who could not divert the ball past goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Cherries appeared to have awoken from their slumber in the 13th minute, King digging out a cross which Dan Gosling nodded harmlessly into the arms of Foster.

Rodriguez’s daisy-cutter did not threaten the Cherries net and the hosts were then forced into an early change with Daniels brought on for the injured Francis.

Daniels soon got into the action in an attacking sense, the former Leyton Orient man receiving a square pass from Ibe, driving forward and thumping low at goal from range. Foster got down comfortably.

Cherries had been guilty of giving the ball away on numerous occasions and the Baggies were getting considerable joy from wide areas.

Centre-half Ahmed Hegazi – who scored the winning goal on the opening-day clash between the teams – delivered from the left flank and Rondon’s flicked header was beaten to safety by Begovic.

The attacking efforts of Howe’s side in the opening half an hour were summed up when King released Stanislas in a promising position in the box but the ball hit the winger’s heel and the chance was gone.

King was aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty having gone to ground under a Hegazi challenge, before handbags ensued moments later after Smith and Jake Livermore slid in for the same ball.

On the stroke of half-time, Stanislas’s free-kick from the left corner of the box was gobbled up by Foster.

After the break, centre-back Steve Cook threw himself in the way of a venomous strike from Rondon but four minutes into the second period, West Brom were done with warnings.

Kieran Gibbs beat Smith on the left and his arching, deep cross was nodded down by Rondon. With alarming ease, Rodriguez swivelled and lashed home from close range. It had been coming.

Steve Cook quickly tried to make amends but hammered over on the turn after the ball spilled to him in a crowded penalty area.

Smith appeared in discomfort when he was replaced by Mousset short of the hour, Howe switching to three at the back in an effort to turn the tide.

West Brom had shut the game down efficiently and it was not until the 74th minute that Cherries had their next meaningful shot at goal.

After Yacob brought down King, Stanislas curled his free-kick onto the roof of the net. A small proportion of home supporters briefly thought it had gone in.

An equaliser had not looked likely but 13 minutes from time, Ibe got it. The former Liverpool man dived in off the left wing and made a beeline for the edge of the box. His bouncing shot appeared under the control of Foster but the keeper could only palm into the corner of the net.

Dawson’s ill-advised lunge on King afforded Stanislas another chance from a dead-ball situation, this time farther out. And Stanislas made scoring look easy when he swept beautifully over the wall and out of Foster’s reach.

In the eighth minute of stoppage time, Daniels made a match-winning contribution when he hacked off the line from substitute Phillips’s header.
