DORSET’S Phil Loose has set his sights on breaking into the world top-10 after being crowned ITF Scottish Seniors Open champion for the second year in succession.

Loose, who manages and coaches at Wimborne Tennis Club, claimed the veteran-40 title at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

The 39-year-old also partnered Germany's Jens Helfferich in the doubles, with the pair finishing as runners-up to Mike Cohen and Jordan Gray.

Loose dropped just four games on his way to the final, beating Stuart Clarke (6-0, 6-0) and Calum McKnight (6-2, 6-2) before overcoming Ross Matheson (7-6, 6-3).

He told the Daily Echo: "It was so nice to get out on court and compete against people a similar age to myself and winning just topped it off.

"Unfortunately, I lost in the doubles final.

"I am hoping to compete in more tournaments this year in Spain, France and Greece.

"My goal is to be in the top 10 in the world at both singles and doubles by the end of the year."

Loose won the veteran-35 title 12 months ago when he beat Helfferich in an epic final during which he saved a match point.
