CALLUM Wilson vowed to graft after admitting he had been less than impressed with his performance at West Ham.

The frontman endured a quiet afternoon in front of goal as the Cherries increased to five games their unbeaten Premier League run courtesy of a 1-1 draw.

With an extended break until the Dorset club visit Chelsea a week on Wednesday, the former Coventry City striker insisted he was fully focused on bouncing back.

He told the Daily Echo: “I am mentally strong and honest enough to admit when I don’t play to the level I set myself. I wasn’t happy with my performance.

“I think I took too long to get into the game but I will work hard over the next week or so and look to pick up against Chelsea.

“I can get man of the match one week and not be happy with my performance the next. I just have to be more consistent.

“But we are five games unbeaten in the league now and we will look to carry that on.”

Wilson was booed by the home fans at London Stadium in the wake of his controversial equaliser when the sides drew 3-3 in their previous clash on Boxing Day.

The 25-year-old had appeared offside when he finished Nathan Ake’s cross deep in stoppage time – and the ball had appeared to roll down his right arm on its way in.

But the frontman, who last week revealed he expected his reception in the capital to be “a little hostile”, insisted it had not affected his display.

“I wasn’t bothered. It makes you put a little more in,” he added.

“You can hear it when the game has stopped but when it is going on you don’t really listen to it.

“Nothing really fell for me and I didn’t get the goal I wanted – on another day I will get a few more chances.”

Since recovering from a second serious knee injury, the Cherries striker has scored seven goals in all competitions this season – including three in his past six games.

Discussing the build up to the clash with Chelsea, Wilson added: “It’s a good chance to get some work into the boys, get a few good training sessions in and have everyone recharge their batteries before going again.”
