BROADSTONE skiing sisters Abigail and Daisy Putman have set their sights on emulating Dave Ryding after completing a success-laden 12 months in the sport.

Ryding, a World Cup alpine ski racer, has competed in two Olympics, four World championships and won the Europa Cup.

Abigail and Daisy, who both train twice a week at Team Snowtrax on Matchams Lane in Christchurch, have been racing in various events all over the country for the past four years

Coached regularly by Darren and Helen Schmidt, their idol at Team Snowtrax is Nicole Shering, while Ryding is the skier they aspire to.

Team Snowtrax head coach Darren Schmidt said: “Daisy and Abigail are two of the best skiers at Team Snowtrax.

“They have both worked hard out of season to train for their races.

“Their results are some of the best in the club and I look forward to them maturing into some of the best female skiers in the UK.”

Abigail and Daisy exceeded expectations this year while racing in events in Norfolk, Manchester, Pontypool and Dublin, as well as many other towns and cities.

And Abigail topped off her impressive season by being selected to join the English Ski School Association (ESSKIA) squad in Pila next year.

Abigail’s achievements this season include winning the SASA Winter Under-13 League and lifting a host of under-12 titles.

She was crowned champion at the following events – Snowsports South, London and South East, Irish, International and Vikings Club National.

Abigail also finished runner-up in the All England Championships as well as collecting nine gold medals, seven silver and four bronze.

Although Daisy had a difficult year competing in the same category as her sister, she still achieved some excellent results, despite being one of the youngest racers in this category.

She was first at the ERSA Club Nationals in Brentwood, runner-up in the SASA Winter Under-13 League and also came second in the London & South East Under-12 Championships.

Daisy was also third in the Snowsports South Under-12 Championship, the Irish Under-12 Championships and the International Under-12 Championship.

She also won two gold medals, six silver and six bronze.

In 2016, Daisy won the Snowsports South Under-10 Championship after winning all six races, a feat she also performed in the London and South East Under-10 Championship by winning all five races.

The girls attend Broadstone Middle School and helped set up the school ski team along with Preston Crook last year.

At their first race, the team placed third at the British Independent School Ski Race and has since gone from strength to strength, winning the ISA National Indoor Championships Junior Open Team, with Abigail being fastest junior racer.

They also won the Southern Open Schools Race in Southampton in July and the ESSKIA Championship qualifier in Southampton, beating all other mixed teams in all age categories.

Daisy and Preston earned selection to the ESSKIA Primary squad, while Abigail was named in the junior squad.
