BLANDFORD-based showjumper Yazmin Davis clinched victory in the penultimate qualifying leg of the 2017 World Class Programme Under-23 British Championship at Addington Equestrian Centre.

The 23-year-old produced a superb double clear with Zilvester II to finish three seconds clear of the field. Her time of 35.11 seconds in the jump-off saw her claim top spot in the final class.

Davis finished third in the final at the London International Horse Show at Olympia 12 months ago and this win puts her back in contention for this year’s main event.

“I thought it was a very technical course and it showed as there were only three double clears in the class," said Davis, who is also on the BEF Excel Talent Programme.

"I didn’t see how quickly the other pairs went in the jump-off but we just tried to take on the turns and push until the final fence.

“Silver (Zilvester II) is on really good form at the moment and I hope that we can continue this going into Olympia.”

Second place went to Harry Wainwright and Diana Fairclough’s Pinheiro Beech who were closely followed by James Wilson and Escola M, owned by Susan Larson.

The next qualifier will take place later this month at the Morris Equestrian Centre with the final of the Under-23 Championship taking place at Olympia.

Davis also recently completed a stunning double success at the Bury Farm All Stars show in Buckinghamshire.

She stormed to victory in the 1.40m competition aboard Zilverster II before claiming the Grand Prix event with Zanbowa Z to scoop £3,500.

Remarkably, Davis also sealed second spot in both events, with Zanbowa Z runner-up in the 1.40m and Zilverster II second in the Grand Prix.

Davis said: “I wasn’t expecting to have two wins. Zanbowa Z is my second horse and he’s only just stepped up to that level.

“He’s fairly new to it and he won the big one, the Grand Prix. They are both on fire and took it all in their stride.”
