BRANSGORE ace Scott Mitchell will tomorrow be doing all he can to “dictate my own destiny” as he bids to reach the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts.

Scotty Dog opened his Group F campaign in Wolverhampton with a 5-2 defeat to Dave Chisnall on Saturday before responding with a 5-3 success over Jeffrey de Zwaan today.

Those results mean the Dorset star is currently third in the group, marginally behind PDC ranked number-eight Chisnall on legs difference.

The 47-year-old faces table-topper Stephen Bunting in his final group match tomorrow, looking to book his place in the second round.

With all four players still in the hunt to qualify in the top two, Mitchell is fully aware the group is set to go to the wire.

He told the Daily Echo: “I said beforehand that it was going to be one of the most even groups. The way it is working out, my suspicions have been proven right.

“The scenarios are not worth thinking about. I have got to go there and try to beat Stephen and then everything will become clearer after that.

“I will be thinking I have to win the game and dictate my own destiny.”

Mitchell’s success over 21-year-old de Zwaan ended with a tense moment, as the Dutchman walked off stage without shaking hands with the former Lakeside world champion.

But the avid Poole Pirates fan insisted that any animosity between the pair had been cleared up away from the oche.

Asked for his take on the events following the game, Mitchell replied: “Jeffrey gave it large a couple of times on a few scores and bits and pieces, which is what they do in the PDC – we all watch it.

“When I hit the winning double I was obviously quite happy to give it a little bit large.

“I didn’t shake his hand probably as quickly as he would have liked me to. When you lose some of the guys like to have their hands shaken really quickly so they can rush off.

“I have spoken to Jeffrey since. He apologised for walking off without shaking my hand – he explained it was more disappointment and I said I totally understood.

“There are no problems between Jeffrey and I. We have sorted whatever that was.”
