CHARLIE Daniels enjoyed one of the most memorable weeks of his life – but believes his best football is still to come.

Daniels became a father for the second time just days before he notched up his 200th league appearance for Cherries in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Stoke.

His wife Carly gave birth to daughter Blakely on Thursday with Daniels unveiled as one of two Premier League players to have signed up to Juan Mata's Common Goal charity on Friday.

The 31-year-old left-back has been one of Eddie Howe’s most reliable players in Cherries' journey to the top flight.

A bargain £175,000 buy from Leyton Orient, Daniels said he had no plans on calling time on his playing career.

He told the Daily Echo: “I want to keep going as long as I can.

“I feel great at the moment and believe I am getting stronger year-on-year.

“I’m not looking to retire any time soon. I’m confident I have a lot of years in me yet.

“I look to people like Jermain Defoe as an inspiration and Sylvain Distin who was here before as role models on how to live your life and keep in top shape for many years.”

Joining initially on loan in 2011 before making a permanent move in 2012 under manager Lee Bradbury, Daniels has gone on to make 196 of his 200 league appearances for Cherries as part of the starting line-up.

Since promotion to the Premier League, he has missed just five of the club’s 85 top-flight games and only Steve Cook has featured in more, having played in 81.

Daniels’ 100th club appearance for Cherries in 2014 coincided with the birth of son Teddy, who celebrates his third birthday early next month.

Three days after supporting then fiancé Carly in hospital, Daniels travelled to Teesside and played in a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough, Cherries' opponents in the Carabao Cup.

Daniels played his part in helping Cherries’ pick up their first away win of the season at Stoke, a result which capped a perfect few days for the player.

“It was a very important win," added Daniels. "We needed points and we knew that. To go to Stoke and get a positive result was extra special.

“People say Stoke is a tough place to play on a windy day so it was very pleasing.

“It was a busy week for me. I had a baby girl on Thursday, which was lovely.

“Everything went well and both mother and daughter are at home now.

“It’s nice to be able go home and spend time with the family together.”

Commenting on Daniels's appearance milestone, boss Howe said: "Charlie is such a consistent performer. He is a great character, a great team player and a great trainer.

"I love his enthusiasm for the game and 200 league appearances for the club is a great landmark to hit, especially at this level."
