GOALKEEPER Asmir Begovic believes Cherries have enough quality to rise up the Premier League table in the coming months.

The Bosnian stopper kept his first clean sheet in the league since his return to the club during the goalless draw with Leicester City on Saturday.

In picking up their fourth point of the season from seven games, Eddie Howe’s side remain 19th in the table heading into the international break.

But Begovic, who is set for two crunch World Cup qualifiers against Belgium and Estonia, believes the Dorset club will soon climb the standings.

Asked whether he felt Cherries had too much quality to be in the bottom three, the goalkeeper replied: “Yes, I think so. I believe in this team and I see it on a daily basis.

“I think our performances over the past month or so have showed we are a good team and a tough team to play against when we are all on it.

“If a couple of things click, we will be on a great run and we will push up the table.”

Cherries enjoyed 61 per cent of possession against the Foxes at Vitality Stadium, with Kasper Schmeichel in the away goal undoubtedly the busier of the two keepers.

And Begovic, who put in a solid display between the sticks to shut out the former Premier League champions, claimed Cherries had been boosted by their recent performances.

He added: “We are pleased with how we are playing. Little moments decide games and those things are missing right now but, overall, the performances are solid and everyone is getting better and stronger each and every game.

“I think if we keep playing like this and show a bit of consistency in the performances, then we will start picking up wins.

“On Saturday, we dominated the game, were pretty solid at the back and got a clean sheet.

“We created enough chances to win two or three games. It just wasn’t meant to be at that end but, if we keep creating them, with the quality we have we will put them away.

“We would be more worried if we didn’t create chances and weren’t dominating games and possession.

“It’s just the end product and those little bits and pieces we need a little bit of luck with. I am sure that will come.”

Begovic’s clean sheet was his first in a competitive fixture for Cherries since September 2007, when he was on loan from Portsmouth.

And while he was happy not to concede, the 30-year-old would have traded his shutout for three points.

“Even though it was a clean sheet I would have preferred to win the game – even if it meant conceding one,” he added.

“The guys in front of me were solid and played really well. I think we are starting to understand each other better.”
