BOSS Tim Brown paid tribute to the spirit and attitude within his squad as Swanage Town & Herston pulled off another FA Vase upset by defeating Wessex One outfit Fawley 3-2 at Day’s Park on Saturday.
Cameron Beard fired home the opener from the edge of the box on 33 minutes with ex-Verwood man Aaron Atkinson doubling the Dorset Premier League outfit's lead just before the interval.
Fawley were much improved in the second half and, in the space of seven minutes, a Declan Hartigan brace drew the Oilers level.
The game then ebbed and flowed with both sides having chances to win it before Beard won the tie with a neat volley in the second minute of injury-time to leave Brown delighted.
“It was a game of two halves,” said Brown. “We looked comfortable at half-time and it was possibly the best we had played all season.
“Credit to Fawley though as they came back well and we started to panic a bit.
"But the mentality and character of my squad is unreal as they never know when to give up.
"We have a strong never-say-die attitude which means the boys will always fight until the last minute and it got us over the line in the Vase again.”
Victory set up a trip to South West Peninsula Premier Division Bodmin Town in the first round on October 21.
