BOSS Matty Holmes said the arrival of Luke Burbidge had given Wimborne Town “a new lease of life”.

Burbidge, who is three games into a month’s loan from Poole, had a hand in both goals as Magpies registered impressive back-to-back away wins.

His sublime first-half leveller cancelled out Craig Duff’s opener before he provided the assist for James Stokoe to head home a 56th-minute winner.

Victory – which followed their 2-1 triumph at Evesham – capped a fruitful week for Wimborne and hoisted them into eighth in the Southern League West.

Holmes told the Daily Echo: “Luke has given us natural width on the right-hand side.

"He has worked very hard and shown real quality, as you would expect from a player who is at Poole Town, a couple of leagues higher.

“He has settled in ever so well and has some good mates here. He knew we would play football.

“It is just for the month at the moment and Luke has to do what he wants.

“If he enjoys it, the agreement was that he would try to extend it. He has given us a new lease of life, which has kicked us on.”

Burbidge, Jack Lovell and Luke Holmes all had chances to break the deadlock before Duff opened the scoring for the Robins against the run of play in the 19th minute.

But Burbidge restored parity with a finely-taken equaliser, his exquisite volley from Holmes’s cross making it 1-1 after 28 minutes.

Wimborne continued to assert, with Lovell hitting the post with a header, and got their rewards when Stokoe nodded home Burbidge’s inch-perfect free-kick.

Boss Holmes added: “The boys were fantastic. We wanted them to carry on the performance from Evesham and they did.

“They were excellent. They were organised and defended well against a strong and direct Bideford team.

“They kept going and showed good attitude after Bideford had scored. They didn’t let their heads go down, which had been happening prior to the Evesham game.

“They dug in and showed some real quality.

“Luke’s finish for the equaliser was unbelievable and he hit a volley on the rise.

“We maintained our quality on the ball in the second half and another excellent finish from James Stokoe gave us a deserved win.”
