BOSS Tom Killick is eager for Poole Town to show their battling qualities when they host Chelmsford City tomorrow (3pm).

Dolphins return to action in National South having fought their way to a dramatic 2-0 win over Salisbury in the FA Cup five days ago.

Having lost six of their past seven league games, manager Killick is hopeful his side will have gained some confidence.

Poole currently lie 20th in the league standings, while visitors Chelmsford occupy fifth.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “The Salisbury game was all about getting a positive result to try to get some confidence back into the players.

“I think they did that by showing real grit and determination. I am hoping that will stand us in good stead when it comes to the Chelmsford game.

“We know one good result against a lower-ranked team is nothing to get excited about but it’s a start.

“We can take some heart from the fact we produced a performance full of determination and were rewarded for it.

“If we can replicate that against Chelmsford, hopefully, we are capable of getting a positive result.”

Poole are yet to win at the Black Gold Stadium from five attempts in the league this season.

In comparison, City are yet to be defeated on their travels, picking up four wins and a draw on the road.

“Without being disrespectful to Salisbury, Chelmsford are going to be a different proposition. We have to be mindful of that,” Killick added.

“Chelmsford will fancy themselves to be promoted into the National League this season.

“You look at their results so far and they are one of the most powerful teams in the league.

“We are under no illusions. Just because we beat Salisbury, it doesn’t give us any divine right to beat Chelmsford but we can go into it in a much more positive frame of mind.

“We know we have our work cut out to get any sort of positive result but we desperately need points.

“The one thing I am extremely confident about is that the players will show fight from the first minute.

“Whatever the outcome, I am very confident Chelmsford will know we are going to be a force on the day.”

Injured Dolphins duo Shaun Cooper and Will Spetch are set to be assessed ahead of the clash, while Steve Devlin serves the second of a three-match ban.

Killick also revealed Tony Lee had suffered a minor fracture to his arm against the Whites which will be assessed further. However, Lee is also suspended.

Victory for Poole, who have eight points from 11 games, would be their third in the league this season.

Wimborne Town will be looking to build on their impressive win at Evesham five days ago when they travel to Bideford in Southern League West.
