MANAGER Eddie Howe wants winger Jordon Ibe to showcase his "immense potential" on a more consistent basis.

The 21-year-old came off the bench to play a starring role in Cherries’ dramatic 2-1 win over Brighton in the Premier League on Friday.

Ibe provided two assists in the spaces of six second-half minutes as Andrew Surman and Jermain Defoe netted to turn the game on its head and end Cherries’ four-game losing run in the top flight.

While he expressed his delight for the former Liverpool man in making a positive impact, Howe also called for the youngster to maintain his high level of performance.

Ibe is expected to be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Carabao Cup third round clash with the Seagulls at Vitality Stadium and could start (7.45pm).

Asked about the winger ahead of the cup fixture, Howe said: “I think he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of before.

“This time, you actually had some end product to it, which was the pleasing thing.

“It was great to see him come on and have that impact at a time when we really needed it. He was there to ignite the spark we needed.

“He is a player of immense potential. I think the challenge for Jordon is to find that consistency.

"We want Jordon to be a regular first-team player. He has the tools to do it and he has to put that together on a consistent basis.

“We are hoping he has a very exciting future ahead of him but that is going to be dictated by how he works every day and he needs to keep that focus.”

Londoner Ibe joined Cherries from Liverpool for a reported fee of £15million in July 2016.

Having been selected for the first 11 games in the Premier League during the previous campaign – and being substituted in all of them – he was restricted to a peripheral role.

He started only two further matches – against Manchester City in February and at Liverpool in April – and appeared 12 times from the bench.

During an interview with the Daily Echo in August, Ibe admitted his first season at Vitality Stadium had been “very poor” and said it was time to “buck up my ideas”.

And boss Howe believed the youngster was showing signs of maturity during his second season with Cherries.

“I think we have seen a more mature Jordon come back. Someone with perhaps more focus than this time last year,” added Howe.

“I think that comes from the fact that he didn’t have the season he wanted and was desperate to try to make an impact on the team.

“I have been very impressed with him on the training ground.

“There is more to come from him, certainly in terms of assists, goals and end product to his work.

“Hopefully, that will come in the future.”
