STRIKER Toby Holmes netted a double as he made an emphatic return to the Wimborne Town squad at Evesham United.

The talented frontman, who had been sidelined with a broken toe picked up against Winchester in August, came off the bench to turn around the game for the visitors in a 2-1 win in Southern League West.

Archie Haskayne had initially opened the scoring with his first goal for Evesham before Holmes struck twice in the final 13 minutes after replacing Sam Bayston.

The result ended a run of three straight defeats for Matty Holmes’s side, who was delighted to see his charges get back on track.

Cuthbury manager Holmes told the Daily Echo: “The boys were absolutely fantastic.

“We deserved the performance. We had been playing so well but not getting our just rewards.”

He added: “Toby came on and within seconds he poked a ball in.

“It was great to have him back.

“I think it gave the lads a big morale boost as well because he is a quality finisher at this level.

“Toby will get the plaudits for the goals but I am also very aware of the work the team do around him.”

Victory moved Wimborne up to 11th in the league table with nine points from seven games.
