LEE Wilkins netted twice as Merley Cobham Sports registered a 9-1 win over promoted Milborne Port at Merley Park.

The hosts, beaten on the opening day by Hamworthy Rec, made it back-to-back victories following their midweek triumph at Parley.

Merley raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Josh Pickering and Pete Pritchard inside the opening 22 minutes.

Veteran defender Steve Gilbert then netted the goal of the game when his stunning 30-yarder gave the visiting goalkeeper no chance.

Ritchie Whiting’s free-kick found its way into the net as Merley made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time.

Although Milborne pulled one back just after the restart through Joe Boon, substitute Jack Mills restored Merley’s four-goal lead on 67 minutes.

Asa Phillips tapped in from close range to make it 6-1 before Merley scored three times in the closing 10 minutes through Jamie Moores and Wilkins’s double.

Early-season pacesetters Swanage Town & Herston maintained the only 100 per cent winning record in the league after triumphing 4-2 against Hamworthy United reserves at Day’s Park.

Cameron Beard, who netted the only goal during Swans’ midweek win over fierce rivals Wareham Rangers, broke the deadlock after 18 minutes.

Nathan Saxby plundered a hat-trick as champions Holt United opened their win account with a 5-1 victory over Gillingham Town at Petersham Lane.

The Bulls were forced to come from behind after Ben Fowles had opened the scoring for the visitors, Saxby levelling just three minutes later from a sweetly-struck shot.

Another well-crafted effort from Saxby saw the hosts take the lead before evergreen Mike Haskell made it 3-1 on the stroke of half-time.

Sam Pearce added a fourth with a deft header in the 70th minute before Saxby completed his treble late on. Gills had Brad Hansford sent off for picking up two yellow cards.

Frankie White’s double fired Wareham Rangers to a 4-2 win at Sturminster Newton as they made it two victories from three games.

Josh Hewson opened the scoring for Rangers after nine minutes before White doubled their lead, only for Jamie Danoris to halve the deficit just seconds later.

However, a rapid response came from Storm Graham who made it 3-1 in the 33rd minute before White added their fourth in the second half.

Rangers also missed a penalty, while Jack Bailey bagged Sturminster’s second 12 minutes from time.

Matt Newberry notched Parley Sports’s consolation as their winless run extended to three games following an 8-1 thrashing at Balti Sports. Ricky Lane hit a hat-trick for Balti.

Hamworthy Rec suffered their first defeat of the season when Leo Hayward bagged the only goal to earn Westland Sports victory at Alvington Lane.

Hayward settled a closely-fought affair in favour of the hosts with a goal just two minutes into the second half.
