HANS Andersen revealed the extent of the relief in the camp after Pirates ended their lengthy run of home defeats last week.

The Dorset side put in an entertaining and gutsy display to see off Wolverhampton 48-45 at Wimborne Road.

That ended a run of five straight home league losses – an unwanted club record.

Captain Andersen played his part with seven points and was unfortunate not to score more after being hit by ignition problems which forced him to retire on his final ride.

Reflecting on stopping the rot, the Dane told the Daily Echo: "We were desperate to get a win, especially at home and not only as a confidence boost for ourselves but also for the fans.

"We need their backing and for people to believe in this team, because it is a very good team.

"We have had so many injuries throughout the season and a lot of the boys are new to the track so there is very little home track advantage."
