EDDIE Hodge's double ensured Hamworthy United would maintain their unbeaten start to the season thanks to a convincing 4-1 win over Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals Newport at the County Ground.

Victory, which followed Hammers' 2-1 triumph at Bashley in midweek, took them to second place in the embryonic league table.

Hodge opened the scoring for the hosts in the first half before the Islanders hit back to level through Josh Younie in the 38th minute.

But further goals from Hodge, Edgar Zanin and Jamie Filkins saw Brendon King's men rewarded for another impressive display.

Hammers will be looking to register a hat-trick of league wins when they visit Bemerton on Tuesday, having already put Harlequins out of the FA Cup this season.

Mark Barker and Mitch Speechley-Price both netted twice as Brockenhurst recorded their first league win of the season, triumphing 5-2 at Alresford. Matt Sheedy was also on target.

A Ross Bottomley-induced own goal saw Lymington Town chalk up a hard-fought 1-0 win over promoted Shaftesbury at Cockrams, while Poppies went down 3-0 at early-season leaders Horndean.

Two late goals from Lewis Ross saw Bashley come from behind to win 2-1 against Guernsey-based Northeners in the first round of the Hampshire Senior Cup.

Bash will travel to the winners of the Tadley Calleva against Cowes Sports tie.
