BOURNEMOUTH'S Sam Jones targeted "tougher fights" after gaining revenge on Chris Adaway at the O2 Academy.

Jones, who suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Adaway at York Hall in May, defeated his Plymouth-based opponent in what was a thrilling rematch.

Jones said: "I want tougher fights. I’m ready to step up in fights, step up in training and, if possible, step up in sparring.

"Hopefully, we will get some good fights under our belts."

Assassin boxer Jones and trainer Ty Browne got straight back into the gym following the defeat by Adaway.

And although Adaway seemed confident when the final bell had sounded, it was Jones who had his arm raised as he took a 39-37 victory.

Trainer Browne said: "We approached the fight a little differently this time. We wanted to be smarter on the counter and sharpen up our punches.

"We have a lot of respect for Chris Adaway, he comes to fight. We had a big name mentioned to us, but we wanted to come here and clear up the mess we created with Chris Adaway.

"We have done that and now want to work our way up the ladder, progress to six-rounders and get in with some big names."

And Kaz Evans, founder of Assassin Boxing, said: "This was a risk that Sam took and not many boxers would face the man who knocked him out, especially not five weeks later.

"Sam proved just how good a boxer he is. It’s now time to kick on and I’m already looking forward to a busy time for Sam in the new season."
