PIRATES pair Brady Kurtz and Jack Holder have missed out on selection for Australia's Speedway World Cup opener.

The talented duo were both included in the Roos' long squad but have not been given the nod for Saturday's meeting at King's Lynn.

Team boss Mark Lemon instead picked Stars riders Chris Holder and Troy Batchelor, as well as world championship leader Jason Doyle and the in-form Nick Morris.

World under-21 champion Max Fricke has been named as Australia's under-21 reserve for the clash with Great Britain, Czech Republic and the United States.

Elsewhere, Poole skipper Hans Andersen failed to earn selection for Denmark's showdown with hosts Sweden, Russia and Latvia at Vastervik on Tuesday.

Preferred instead were Grand Prix star Niels-Kristian Iversen, Leon Madsen, Kenneth Bjerre and Michael Jepsen Jensen, while Frederik Jakobsen was the under-21 pick.

The winners of events one and two face seeded Poland in the final at Leszno on Saturday. The second and third-place teams qualify for Friday's race-off at the same track.
