PIRATES' new recruit Grzegorz Zengota scored four paid five in his first meeting in the Polish top flight this season.

The former Swindon and Coventry rider was drafted in to replace Nicki Pedersen for Leszno's 52-38 victory over Grudziadz.

Some three days earlier, Zengota had stormed to victory in a Polish Individual Championship quarter-final, scoring 14 points at Rawicz.

Hans Andersen bagged 10 points as Lodz triumphed 51-32 at Bydgoszcz in the Polish second tier, while Nicolai Klindt totalled seven paid nine in high-flying Krakow's 49-41 success at home to Daugavpils.

Poole vice-captain Kyle Newman managed just four paid five as Ipswich lost 54-38 at Workington in the SGB Championship on Saturday.

Reserve James Shanes recorded an eighth-place finish in the first round of the World Long Track Championship at Herxheim.

Shanes, who had kicked off his German road trip with a third-place effort at a meeting in Plattling nine days ago, finished with two second places at a meeting at Bielefeld.

Meanwhile, Pirates' hotly-anticipated clash with SGB Premiership leaders Wolverhampton was postponed.

The decision to call off yesterday's meeting due to wet conditions means Poole will not have raced in nearly a month by the time they next take to the track.

Neil Middleditch's side travel to Leicester on Saturday.
