TWO devastating spells from quickie Tom Barber paved the way for Bashley’s convincing 123-run victory over Premier Division rivals Alton at the BCG.

Barber, bowling with electrifying pace, set the tone when he broke in half Alex Hammond’s off stump with one ferocious delivery early in the Alton reply.

In pursuit of Bashley’s 240, the Alton batsmen were clearly unnerved by Barber whose display of controlled hostility had some home followers suggesting it was the quickest they had seen for many a year.

Bashley’s total was built around a second-wicket stand of 89 between Josh Digby (51) and Patrick Page (45), coupled with valuable contributions from Chris Vaughan (33) and Mitch Wilson (34).

And after Barber had reduced Alton to 19 for two, he returned to dismiss Hugo Hammond and Scott Myers as the visitors slumped from 90 for four to 91 for six.

Barber (4-27) received support from Wilson, Sam Thomson, Simon Ridley and Simon Watkins, who took a wicket apiece, as Alton fell well short at 117.
