LEWIS Kerr has quickly found a route back into top-flight British speedway with Somerset.

The former motocross ace provided cover for Pirates after Kyle Newman crashed in the season-opening Darcy Ward Invitational.

Kerr rode in seven meetings for Poole during Newman's month on the sidelines, including five SGB Premiership fixtures, scoring 27 paid 39 in 20 league rides.

And the 27-year-old has now linked up with the struggling Rebels as part of a triple change which sees Richard Lawson and Cameron Heeps also arrive at the Oaktree Arena.

Somerset have axed former Poole riders Paul Starke and Rohan Tungate, as well as Jan Graversen, to accommodate the new trio.

Rebels team manager Garry May, who is based in Poole, said: “It is never nice to tell riders they are being released but we had to do something to turn our season around.

“For whatever reason, things just haven’t happened for Rohan and Paul and while Jan has steadily improved, I felt we needed greater consistency at reserve.

“Both Rohan and Paul have been great servants but I have to do what I think is best for the club.”
