CHERRIES midfielder Harry Arter has been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for next month’s critical World Cup qualifying clash with Austria.

Ireland will also contest two friendly matches prior to their Dublin date with the Austrians on June 11.

Martin O’Neill’s side will travel to New York for a game against Mexico on June 1.

They return to the Irish capital to play Uruguay three days later, before trying to seal the victory over Austria that would strengthen their hold on a top-two spot in European qualifying Group D.

Four-cap Arter's only competitive international outing came in the reverse fixture in Vienna back in November, when James McLean's goal settled a tense affair in favour of the Irish.

Arter is joined in the squad by Cherries defender Marc Wilson, who is currently on loan at West Bromwich.

Former Portsmouth player Wilson didn't feature in a Premier League match for Eddie Howe's team following his move from Stoke last August, before linking up with Albion in January.

He started the Baggies' draw at Burnley earlier this month, and was a second-half substitute when Chelsea beat Tony Pulis's side last Friday to clinch the Premier League title.
