JACOB Hunter had to settle for runner-up spot in the matchplay final of the Henderson Trophy at Dudsbury Golf Club.

The Broadstone youngster lost out on the final hole to Sherborne GC's Adam Harris, who had already won the Keith Durbin Salver during the stroke play phase of the competition.

Hunter progressed to the quarter-finals after his opponent pulled out and then saw off club-mate Thomas Kollberg, wrapping up victory on the 16th.

Paired with Weymouth GC's Mark Rankin in the semis, Hunter stamped his authority on proceedings and won 4&3.

Parkstone's Morgan Taylor fought back strongly against Harris in the other semi but the latter eventually secured a 2&1 success.

In the final, Hunter won the third with a par but Harris hit back with pars on the fifth and seventh to take the lead.

Back came Hunter on the 11th but a birdie three at the next restored Harris's lead.

Hunter replied immediately to level but then found trouble to the right of the green at the 14th and conceded the hole.

The next three were halved and at the 18th, Hunter found the bunker from the tee and Harris ran out the winner, two up.

The strokeplay phase was played at Parkstone, Came Down, Remedy Oak and Rushmore, with each player's best three rounds counting towards their total.
