FIT-again Kyle Newman has vowed to avoid another untimely crash ahead of his first league meeting of the season in Pirates colours.

The Poole-born flier spent a month on the sidelines after suffering a fractured shoulder blade and muscle damage in the season-opening Darcy Ward Invitational.

However, Newman has been restored to the Pirates septet in place of Lewis Kerr and will ride in tonight's SGB Premiership clash with visitors Rye House (7.30pm).

Newman told the Daily Echo: "I'd love to come in and bang in a maximum but, realistically, I have given everyone a month's head start.

"Getting out of the gate and the first lap of each race is going to be a challenge for me.

"I just have to keep calm. I don't want to try to play catch-up because that's when you override and cause yourself to crash.

"I'm just going to ride my bike. If I push harder than I need to, that's when there's going to be problems."

In the absence of the sidelined Krzysztof Kasprzak, Swindon's Nick Morris has been booked to guest.

Rye House will use rider replacement for Stuart Robson, who is injured.

Newman added: "They have a team of racers so there could be no tougher meeting for me to come back into. But that's the way it is. If anything, it's a good thing.

"If you are riding against tough opposition, that will show you how you are really going."
