DAVEY Watt has marked his retirement from British speedway by picking his Pirates dream team – and it's an all-star cast.

The popular Australian rode for Poole in seven separate seasons so he had no shortage of talent to choose from.

Watt told the Daily Echo: "It's phenomenal that people have had the privilege of being entertained by these riders.

"I certainly have and it's been an honour to ride with them and many others at Poole.

"I got along with everybody and I guess that's part of the reason the club has been successful – because we always had a great team spirit."

DAVEY WATT'S PIRATES DREAM TEAM

1: Tony Rickardsson

He was inspirational in every sense. He was a phenomenal talent, professional and a super-nice guy.

I was lucky enough to spend time with him and call him a friend. He helped me out a lot in those early years and that was fantastic for me.

Bournemouth Echo:

2: Gary Havelock

The first time I rode a bike in England was a Poole versus Denmark meeting and I was guesting for Poole.

I was so nervous beforehand and Havvy gave me some welcome advice which I hung on to for my entire career.

I can recite what he told me just about word for word. He is one of the nicest people you will meet and a legend of the sport as well.

Bournemouth Echo:

3: Chris Holder

Chris has made his mark on Poole Speedway and most Poole teams I have ridden in, he has been in.

He is somebody I'm lucky to call a mate and have done for 10 years or so.

We have ridden around the globe together and he has got one of the best styles in the world. I could watch him ride a bike all day, he is fantastic.

Bournemouth Echo:

4: Leigh Adams

When I rode with Leigh at Poole, I was reserve and he was number one.

He'd win the first race 99 times out of 100 and would make it look easy, he was so smooth.

Then I'd go out in heat two and would be wobbling all over the track, thinking, how does this guy do it?

Bournemouth Echo:

5: Darcy Ward

I've lived, travelled and ridden with Darcy and there is nothing I can say about him which hasn't been said before.

He was absolutely phenomenal and sometimes I was so envious of him on a bike. He was half my age and light years ahead of me.

Bournemouth Echo:

6: Davey Watt

I'm always happy to ride for Poole so I'm happy to be in this team.

This isn't a line-up I would want to ride against so I think I'm down at reserve!

Bournemouth Echo:

7: Krzysztof Cegielski

Krzysztof was in the Poole team the first year I came over, although I had known him for a few years.

He was talented, determined and focused and that was really inspiring.

To see what he's done since his accident shows those traits are part of his character.
