Eddie Howe says he is "delighted" Brighton & Hove Albion will provide Cherries with extra south coast opposition in next season's Premier League – as long as Cherries survive this term.

Chris Hughton's Albion secured their return to the top-flight, following a 34-year absence, with a 2-1 success over Wigan on Easter Monday.

Victory in either of their final two games – against Bristol City and Aston Villa – will guarantee Brighton the Championship title, ahead of Newcastle.

Former Cherries striker Glenn Murray has been instrumental in the Sussex club's success, scoring 22 league goals since arriving from Dean Court, initially on loan, last summer.

Howe told the Daily Echo: "I am pleased for any former player who goes on to have success in their career.

"I am delighted for Brighton, for Chris Hughton and for Glenn. I am always pleased to see English managers and players coming into the Premier League and it is nice to see another south coast club doing well."

Cherries and Brighton were facing off in League One a little more than six years ago. Asked if he could ever have imagined the teams meeting in a Premier League encounter, Howe said: "I don’t think it matters who we play. Just Bournemouth being in the Premier League is some story.

"I don’t ever get bored of hearing it or ever get complacent about it and it is really important no one at the club does."
