POOLE Town manager Tom Killick confirmed the club had had “indirect contact” with an interested party regarding sought-after frontman Luke Roberts.

Roberts has attracted the attention of several clubs from a higher level following his eye-catching exploits during Poole’s debut campaign in National South.

The versatile 23-year-old, who can operate as a striker or on the wing, was watched recently by Mark Cooper, the manager of National League high-fliers Forest Green Rovers.

Roberts, who is in his final year at Bournemouth University where he is studying for a degree in sport development and coaching sciences, is currently under contract to the Dolphins.

Asked by the Daily Echo whether there had been any firm interest in the player, Killick replied: “No. But it is a strange stage of the season to get anything concrete.

“I would imagine clubs would be waiting until the end of the season. We have had indirect contact but nothing direct.”

Killick added: “Luke showed in flashes what he is all about against Hemel on Friday. I think it is important there is a balance and, as brilliant as he has been, I was a bit disappointed with his end product.

“I think he would have felt frustrated as well because he should have done a bit better from some of the positions he got in. But if I was watching him again, you could see glimpses of the quality he has.”

Poole will be hoping to maintain their chances of a top-five finish when they visit Bath City tomorrow, although Abdulai Baggie is unlikely to feature after limping out of their 1-1 draw with Hemel Hempstead on Good Friday.

Killick said: “He came off against Chelmsford and we had to see how it went against Hemel. He came off quite early with a muscular-type injury and I can’t see him playing against Bath.

“I would be surprised if he played against Whitehawk but I think there is a reasonable chance he might be back for the Dartford game.”
