EXPERIENCED academy manager Joe Roach declared himself "proud" to have worked at a "great club" after announcing he would leave Cherries in June.

Roach has enjoyed two spells at Dean Court spanning more than 13 years and developed the likes of Sam Vokes, Danny Ings, Brett Pitman and Joe Partington.

He also oversaw the improvement of Baily Cargill, who last month became the first Cherries academy graduate to feature in the Premier League.

Roach, who is stepping down for personal reasons, is set to be granted a testimonial.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “I have been proud to be a part of such a great club for such a long time.

“I’ve worked with some fantastic people and players and it is a special feeling when someone you have worked with goes on to have a career in the game.

“The club has been on an incredible journey, we’ve overcome unique challenges and I am proud to be leaving with us thriving in the greatest league in the world.

“I believe the academy is in an excellent position and well placed to continue developing young players, with a fantastic training ground and hugely committed, enthusiastic and talented staff.

“I wish the very best to the academy players and their families, and hope their aspirations are accomplished.”

Cherries boss Eddie Howe said: “We are very sad to be losing Joe.

“His work ethic and commitment has been unquestionable and he has always acted in the best interests of the young players at the club.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to Joe for his long and distinguished service.”

Chief executive Neill Blake added: “Joe has played a key role in developing young players and bringing them through the system.

“Thirteen years is a long time to be affiliated to one club and I believe granting Joe a testimonial is befitting of his loyalty and dedication."
