BOURNEMOUTH were blown away by a second-half onslaught by champions Old Redcliffians but managed to grab a consolation bonus point.

Lions, who have slipped out of the National Three South West promotion picture in recent weeks, led early in the second period. But Old Reds redoubled their efforts and eventually ran out comfortable 53-33 winners.

Boss Will Croker handed a full debut to Joe Spiller while Tom Napier was included on the bench.

The teams traded early penalties before a couple of converted tries put Old Reds in control, with a Grant Hancox penalty arriving in between.

Luca Firetto touched down to cut the deficit and a Hancox penalty ensured Lions trailed 17-14 at the interval.

Matters improved further after the restart. Carlos Snell scored his first try for Bournemouth and when Ali Bennett crossed and Hancox converted, the visitors led 26-17.

However, Old Reds then stepped up a gear and a penalty and five straight tries, four of which were converted, gave them a 27-point lead.

Wyn Roberts's score allowed Lions to earn a bonus point, Hancox converting.
