MARK Molesley will be “fully engrossed” in Cherries under-21s’ game at Bristol Rovers this afternoon (1pm) – before dashing to Dorchester for the Dorset Senior Cup final.

The former Cherries midfielder combines his role as under-21s boss with playing duties for Southern League Weymouth.

And Molesley is about to add to his workload, having been installed as joint-caretaker manager of the Terras, with current incumbent Jason Matthews due to bow out following tonight's final.

Molesley told the Daily Echo: “I will be fully engrossed in Bournemouth on Tuesday afternoon – if anything that will help me. I haven’t got all day to think about the final and sometimes that is a good thing.

“You can overthink things. I will be getting back from Bristol and shooting straight to that game, then once I get to the stadium I will turn my attention to it.

"That is part-time football. A lot of the other lads will be working during the day and have the same problem, so that is not an excuse for me.

“There is never a dull moment right now but Bournemouth is my first priority and always will be.”

Weymouth take on mid-table Western League outfit Gillingham Town at Dorchester’s Avenue Stadium (7.45pm).

Molesley says it will be the perfect occasion to mark Matthews’ exit. And he was keen to stress that he had made no plans for his future with the non-league club beyond this season.

Equally, the 36-year-old – who assumed the under-21s helm on an interim basis in February following Stephen Purches’s promotion to first-team coach – is waiting to hear what Cherries have planned for him next season.

“Jason is a club legend and a very likeable guy,” said Molesley. “I hope he can go out on a cup final win, which would be a fitting way to finish.

“I will be looking after the team with Paul Maitland for the final three matches – I am contracted to the club until the end of the season and am more than happy to help out.

“In these coming few weeks I am sure Bournemouth will start planning their staffing arrangements for next season – and Weymouth likewise.

“I will have to see how things pan out.”

Molesley, who is expecting to rely on the same core of youngsters which beat Peterborough 4-1 for today’s trip to Bristol, is chasing the first half of a county cup double against Gillingham.

He will lead his young Cherries in the Hampshire Senior Cup final against Basingstoke Town – with the club expecting to receive a date for their St Mary’s Stadium showpiece this week.

“It is always nice to go down in the history books,” added Molesley.

“But I am not getting carried away. It is not about me. It is about the clubs involved. Hopefully, both will win and everyone will be happy.”
