CHERRIES midfielder Lewis Cook stepped up his comeback by captaining England to victory in the Four Nations Tournament against Portugal, France and Senegal.

The Young Lions finished the competition unbeaten after following up a 2-2 draw with Portugal in their opening game with a 1-0 win over hosts France and a 2-0 victory against Senegal.

Cook, who was injured on international duty in October, donned the armband in all three games and played the full 90 minutes against Portugal seven days ago.

The 20-year-old was replaced by Everton’s Ademola Lookman at half-time against France on Saturday and by Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe after 66 minutes against Senegal on Tuesday.

Cook, a £7million buy from Leeds in the summer, started Cherries' Premier League defeat by Manchester United in August but has since featured only in EFL Cup ties with Morecambe and Preston and the FA Cup third round reverse at Millwall, his progress checked by the injury.

Meanwhile, Cherries goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was an unused substitute as England completed their Elite European Under-19 Championship qualifiers with a resounding 5-1 win over Belarus on Monday.

Ramsdale, an £800,000 capture from Sheffield United in January, started the 3-0 wins over Norway and Spain as England booked their place in this summer’s championship with a game to spare.
