POOLE Town could today learn if they have done enough to retain National South status.

Dolphins have carried out a variety of ground improvements – including installing new terracing and upgrading the floodlights – with the aim of meeting National League rules.

And club chiefs will hope to receive the green light when inspectors visit the Black Gold Stadium this afternoon.

Vice-chairman Chris Reeves was in buoyant mood ahead of a crucial day in Poole's history, admitting: "We're feeling confident."

The Daily Echo revealed in January that Dolphins faced the prospect of demotion unless they could get their ground up to scratch.

Crowned Southern League champions last year, Poole were permitted to stage step two football on the proviso their headquarters met ground-grading criteria by March 31.

The club had no facility to receive a Football Foundation grant and therefore had to raise an initial £70,000 through a variety of avenues.

Meanwhile, in tonight's Sydenhams Wessex Premier action, Bashley entertain Team Solent (7.45pm).

Bash are on a run of four games unbeaten, which includes three wins in their past three games.

The New Forest side recently defeated Lymington Town, AFC Portchester and Whitchurch United, with a draw against Bemerton giving them 10 points already this month.
