PIRATES bosses are tonight anxiously waiting to hear news on Kyle Newman after he crashed during the abandoned Darcy Ward Invitational.

In his first ride of the night at Wimborne Road, the Puddletown-based ace suffered a spectacular spill on turn three while pursuing former Poole team-mate Przemek Pawlicki, injuring his shoulder in the process.

Newman appeared in considerable discomfort as he was seen to by medics on the track but got to his feet after several minutes.

Having been checked over in the pits, the Poole vice-captain withdrew from the meeting.

Poole Speedway's Twitter feed reported Newman had aggravated an old injury and had been advised to rest.

The 25-year-old had been due to make his Ipswich bow in the SGB Championship tomorrow, with Sheffield the visitors to Foxhall.

Poole's first meeting of the season as a septet is at Wolverhampton in the Premiership Shield on Monday.
