FORMER Cherries star Matty Holmes has today agreed terms to stay on as manager of Wimborne Town.

Holmes's current deal was due to expire at the end of this season but has been renewed and extended for another 12 months.

In his first job in management, Holmes has led Magpies to 12th place in Division One South & West of the Southern League.

“We are trying to build something for the future and I am really looking forward to being here next season,” said Holmes in an exclusive interview with the Daily Echo.

"We have had some very promising discussions in the past couple of days and there are a lot of exciting things going on."

Wimborne issued the following statement: "Matty's role as first-team coach is remunerated on a part-time basis, in line with other managers' wages operating at this level of football.

"Matty is also employed by the club to carry out coaching and community projects outside of his management role.

"This additional role is key to the overall success of the club and has contributed significant income during the current season, which is set to further increase next season and beyond.

"The club is very much on track with its plans and securing Matty again was paramount."
