PETER Gallop was recognised at the annual Dorset County Football Association volunteer awards ceremony at Bulbury Woods Golf Club.

The event was an opportunity for Dorset County Football Association to thank and recognise the hours of commitment, motivation and dedication that the army of helpers give with eight awards presented for outstanding contribution to Dorset Football.

A DCFA statement read: "Peter started his association with Hamworthy United FC as a player when the club was in the Dorset Combination League more than 20 years ago.

"Unfortunately, due to injury, his playing career finished early but Peter remained devoted to Hamworthy United FC.

"He became assistant secretary to the late Roy Mitchener and when Roy passed away Peter became club secretary.

"He really has been a lifeline of Hamworthy United FC being involved in many activities, groundsman, barman, a volunteer who would turn his hand to anything, you name it, and Peter has been involved.

"A true volunteer who has been ambitious to see the club achieve the very best it can.

"Peter is dedicated to football and has the honour of being elected as president of the Dorset Premier League."
