A BOURNEMOUTH teenager recovered from a bizarre injury to claim his first regional winner’s trophy in more than two years.

Greenbaize potter David O’Callaghan dislocated his left knee in a freak accident while competing in the Dorset Open at the Ambassador Club in Poole.

The 17-year-old caught his trouser pocket on the corner pocket of the table and twisted his knee, leaving him in agony.

However, a healthy dose of physiotherapy meant O’Callaghan only missed the sixth leg of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour.

He returned for the seventh leg at Fareham Snooker Club and triumphed after overcoming rankings leader Charlie Pringle in the final. A brown-to-black clearance wrapped up his 2-0 victory.

Explaining his somewhat unusual injury, O’Callaghan said: “I was coming round to get the rest and caught my pocket on the corner pocket and twisted my knee. It was painful.”

The teenager’s previous tournament success had been on the Bronze Tour in October 2014.

He added: “It’s been a long time. I’m so glad I won.”
