CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe believes there is “no way” Harry Arter will be fit enough to report for international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Midfielder Arter was this week named in Martin O’Neill’s squad for the Republic’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Wales in Dublin on Friday.

But Arter is struggling after being ruled out of Cherries’ 2-0 win over Swansea in the Premier League today due to a calf problem.

He required treatment after taking a kick to the muscle during the second half of Cherries’ 3-2 win over West Ham – with a scan revealing he had sustained a grade one strain.

Asked whether Arter would be fit to link up with the Republic, Howe said: “I don’t know if he will be okay for international week.

“Missing today was obviously a blow for him and for us and I think he will potentially be out of the Ireland squad.

“I don’t know officially but I would have thought there is no way he will play.”

Arter’s chances of featuring for the Republic in Euro 2016 were wrecked when he was ruled out due to a nagging thigh injury.

The 27-year-old won his first competitive international cap in November when he made his debut in the Republic’s 1-0 win over Austria in a World Cup qualifier in Vienna.

  • Arter has subsequently withdrawn from the squad and flown to Dubai for Cherries' training camp.
